Living for Death
Living for Death
By Christina Esser
They live their lives focused on eternity,
On transcending into a better world.
They incessantly seek what isn’t here, but there
Like a fish in water, gasping for air.
A prescient vision of what-ifs drives fear
As if the end is always near.
When they live in the future by means of dread,
They live an illusion of life, when in reality—
They’ve been dead.
